Located within the award winning Innovation Park on the university's Jubilee Campus, the GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) Carbon Neutral Laboratories for Sustainable Chemistry serves as a hub for sustainable scientific advances and collaborations within the industry. Gleeds provided project management and employer’s agent services on the project that was constructed in partnership with GSK and completed in November 2016.

The award, which was judged by a panel of eleven industry experts, considered the sustainable solutions implemented within the construction of the laboratory. The judges recognised the building’s use of heat and power, from the combination of an effective thermal envelope with LED lighting and controls, on demand ventilation and heat recovery throughout the building. The commendation also acknowledges the implementation of natural materials, as well as the low consumption of energy and water during construction.

Commenting on the award Gleeds director in Nottingham, James Marshall, said: “It is fantastic that this building has been acknowledged for its excellence and innovation in sustainable design. Gleeds has worked with the University of Nottingham for almost 60 years and this new laboratory is another great example of how together we’re setting the benchmark for all new capital projects at the university”.
